The small town of Uji is just a short train ride away from Kyoto city. For those interested in learning, tasting, and smelling the rich green tea and matcha culture and tumultuous history of the aristocracy of old, this short yet sweet tour is the perfect exploration off the beaten path.

Meet your guide at Tofukuji Station before heading to one of the most famous zen temples in Kyoto before heading to Kyoto Station to explore the modern architecture before heading off through an oft overlooked neighborhood before ending at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sanjusangendo, a beautiful 13th century wooden building that houses 1001 gold plated statues of Kannon.

Your guide will meet you either at your hotel or Kyoto Station before embarking on the train to Nara. Famous for its deer and rich history, enjoy the giant Buddha and other classical architectures filled with influences from the Silk Road and local traditions. There are some small inclines while walking. If you prefer to meet in Nara or visit other specific spots in the city, please bring it up in your email.
Start in the bustling downtown of Kyoto's entertainment district. Your guide will take you down through the winding streets to visit the Gion Geisha district, along with many shrines and temples. Where you go can be adjusted. Depending on time, enjoy meandering down to Sanjusangendo temple, the longest wooden building in Japan, before hopping on the train to Fushimi Inari to enjoy the bright red Torii gates and fox guardians with their unique and mystic atmosphere.
Start at the iconic Golden Pavilion before taking a stroll through the local neighborhood and hopping on the retro Randen rail line to Arashiyama. From there, explore the bustling shops, bamboo forest and temples both on and off the beaten path.
